I don’t want to post many messages here to interrupt job seekers.
1. Make 1 page cv. Period. No arguments. No one has time to read your novel or turn to page 2.
2. CV writing is not an essay writing competition or is not meant to show off your English writing skills. The idea is to get a phone call for interview or for anything else. Getting that phone call should be your objective. Then talk any amount of nonsense in interview, you have the right 😊
3. Get rid of hotmail email ID. It proves you were born before 1980.
4. Create a good Linkedin account/ profile. And this must be mentioned in the CV. Have as many contacts on linkedin as possible. Beg your contacts to endorse your skills. Your profile is a salesman for you. Make sure it is polished and uptodate with many endorsements. Your countrymen may not endorse you especially if you are from India Pakistan Bangladesh etc. Find contacts in Europe, USA, Africa, Far East.
5. Be active on Linked in. Post articles, like other people’s articles, participate in discussion. Ask questions, say you are new here. Many people from Western World on linkedin will help you. Grow your contact list. Target for 2000, you will at least cross 500.
Be creative in choosing skill sets. Linkedin has just 50. Check what vacancies you plan to apply this week. Hide skills that are not required for those vacancies and add others that are required for that week.
We live in stupid age of AI (artificial intelligence). Be smarter, beat them by their own rules. No matter how good you are at work, if word search by recruiter does not find those words on your profile, you are counted dumb idiot and filtered out.
6. Email ID
Create new one so that any nonsense you have posted on useless sites like facebook, tiktok etc., do not create a negative impression about you.
Do a google search with your own photo and name or email ID. You will be surprised to see the garbage come out on internet about you.
Dont make funny email ID’s like Prince of Honolulu. No one would take you seriously. If you are over 40, dont mention your age or birth year in email ID. Even skip it from your CV also.
7. CV must have a good photo. Pay the studio to take a good picture, pay QAR 150 ($40). You spent $2000 to come to Dubai/ GCC to look for job and wondering if paying $50 is worth the effort for profile pic.
Never post semi nude photo (for girls) and spiked hair for men, unless you want to join a rock band.
8. Consider paying $80 for writing a good CV. But before that search for many free samples on internet.
9. Always write a cover letter, even if not asked by the company.
10. Each cover letter must be distinct (different) matching the job description. Spend some time creating new write ups- 3 per day.
11. If you are jobless, use the time judiciously.
Stop tiktok facebook and instagram, etc. They are draining your life out of you.
12. Never write you are jobless. State you work for free for this charity or that. In fcat, help society even if you are in Qatar.
Besides humanity service, you will meet different people and hence more prospects of getting to know about new jobs.
If you are Muslim, do it to seek Allah’s pleasure. Keep intentions pure and continue to assist after getting a job- maybe by donating QAR 100 a month than giving 4 hours a day.
13. Learn something new everyday. It is all free on youtuvr- be it writing cover letters for job or excel skills.
Keep a register to record what did you learn everyday, where did you apply for job, whom did you meet today.
Review it on each Thursday. You will be surprised to know e.g. you did not apply for any job this week or did noy meet any new person.
14. Walk in office towers and hand down your CV in each office. There are 60% chance you will get hired or be directed to someone who is hiring.
16. Not all vacancies are posted on linkedin. Not all vacancies that are posted are genuine. There are crooks out there from.HR dept., who just want to grow thier contacts to 7000 and will post fake jobs. Click the job poster’s name and it it does noy take you to his company, he is Vijay Mallya or Choksi of India i.e. fraudster.
17. Always check newspapers. Most are genuine and are not posted anywhere else. Instead to buy a bewspaper everyday, make friends with your neighbour who buys ask him if it is ok to take the classified section in the morning and return in the evening.
18. Look out for walk-in interview events and job mela (fair). Go there early in the morning. Meet people. You may get hired sooner than you could imagine.
19. Get up early in the morning. Do fajar prayers. Never wake up beyond sunset. Get shower, put on ironed clothes, shoes, tie and start job search from home or walk out. Never remain in pajamas even if you are jobless. Getting dressed makes you feel happy, boosts your confidence and I believe it transmits positive vibes to the recruiter even if you applied online.
Most importantly, if someone does call you for an interview, you can cast off in 5 minutes. Dont lose any opportunity due to your laziness.
20. Make a new CV for each job. Keep revision history of each version for re-use when applying to their competitors.
21. Get rid of your Nigeria, India and Pakistan number. Get a local Dubai or Qatari SIM. This number must be mentiined on your CV, even if you are still in your home country. Put yourself in recruiter’s shoes. Would you call a guy for interview from Rawalpindi, Mombasa or Buland Shaher or a guy who is already sitting in Karama (Dubai) or Matar Qadeem (Doha).
Dont ask me how to put Dubai number if I am not in Dubai. You must have enough IQ to figure that out.
Never mention your home country address on your CV. Put an address from Dubai/ Qatar, so you become approachable.
22. I dont think we have any Arab members here in this group. Never send your CV in Arabic to any company, unless they asked for it.
23. Arabic language :
Always write you know broken Arabic or basic.
If you know that salaam alaikum is an Islamic greeting, you wont be lying technically.
Learn bare minimum Arabic language – add this to your daily to-do-list.
1st step- learn 20 most common phrases, you can find on google.
***************************
Dont write thank you mesaages, rather if you find it useful, print it and chalk down your progress. Yes, I would like to see your mesaage in the group after you have landed a job, preferably with above help. May God help you to a better living and put you on good path.
